Sissinghurst and Cranbrook, Kent

Last Saturday we visited Sissinghurst Castle (National Trust – www.nationaltrust.org.uk). In fact, it is not a castle but was a Tudor hunting lodge. Only a fraction of the lodge remains as it is believed that most was destroyed in a fire.

We later visited nearby Cranbrook and their smock windmill.

Sometimes the name Baughan is transcribed as Baugham or Bangham. There are numerous entries in Kent and this shows the existence of the Bangham family in the Cranbrook area for at least the last 100 years.
