The following table identifies the majority of Baughans etc that were in the military services around the World War 1 period. The images mentioned are from the WW1 Medal Rolls Index, Army Pension Records and Army Service Records – all held at the Public Record Office in Kew. The information is supplemented from other sources such as the Birth and Death indexes from the General Registrar’s Office and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission data.. In a considerable number of cases the names differ between the various records; I have used the name that I generally associate the person with. There are still a number of individuals that I have not positively identified.
The National Archives website has an excellent description of what is held on the Medal Index Cards and shows what the campaign medals look like. Unfortunately to download the images is chargeable – alternatively they are available through Ancestry.co.uk (subscription required).
