Although we have lived in the area for over 20 years and been past this many times we had never been inside Gatton Hall until yesterday. Here are a few snaps taken on a tour of part of the grounds.<\/p>\n

The Gatton Town Hall was built when Gatton had a population of about 100 people and returned 2 Members of Parliament – the results had to be declared under a solid roof. The buildings behind are part of the Royal Alexandra and Albert school.<\/p>\n

The gardens were landscaped by Capability Brown. The Hall is mainly a replacement as the original house was destroyed by fire in the 1930s. It was owned by Jerimiah Colman (known for Colman’s mustard).<\/p>\n
